How to build a CNC Router?

Category: Milling Machines

Looking really good so far, although without actually testing with Mesa attached is much safer for deciding, but it is a go for sure from those tests.
I had several T40/T41/T42/T43, they all worked fine with Ubuntu 10.04 and LinuxCNC 2.5/2.7 using parallel port.
I had Lenovo T420S it was not usable, now it seems with new kernels it is quite good.
I had Lenovo X220 it was unusable, now it seems with new kernel it is quite good.
I have X240 in use on a production machine it works fine with Mesa
I have T470 with touchscreen was used on production machine for over a year or two, works fine with Mesa
And so do X1 Yoga and Yoga 370.
There is a topic on laptops, so if it ends up working with Mesa you should add those there.
Thank you.

OK well thanks for the replies. At least I know I'm not going mad. Well not more than usual :-).

Yes, I guess the problem would be migrating all the messages. I might ask around as I know someone who's had to do this with other systems.

Meanwhile, I wonder if it might be useful to have a notice on the page. Or maybe on the registration page so new users would get fair warning.

Laser Head Height Sensor – Looking for a Beta Tester

Category: Plasma & Laser

Awesome to see more folks doing Linuxcnc fiber lasers. I also just ordered a 6kw laser source from raycus together with the chiller and laser head. I am debating if i will use a raytools controller as those are quite inexpensive or linuxcnc.

What is the current state of the art in linuxcnc fiber lasers? any pointers?

whc-whb04b-6 button debounce

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

In the whc-whb04b-6.hal example code I downloaded I don't see any debounce filters. Are the pendant buttons debounced in the component or do I need to debounce the bit pins in the .hal file?

The end of my business. Parts up for Auction

Category: User Exchange

I have been a fairly quiet member here for some years and have been using Mesa boards for 20 years. My hobbies and interests have been joined at the hip with my business for 33yrs. Unfortunately it is time to close-up (thanks to HII Newport News Shipbuilding). Everything I and my business have acquired is now up for auction. I am hoping to pay off my debts and using epay or an auction co. would suck all the money out of it. So we have been building our own auction site at our 25 year old domain https:/lansingmachine.com   We are still working out a few things like shipping and alternate means of payment but we have items listed now. There will be (I hope) a lot more listed soon. I have new and used servo drives and motors, PLCs, HMI panels, you name it. Oh and 36 Mesa boards new and used.

WEMAS MT 32 CNC Lathe -> LinuxCNC - Mesa or EtherCAT?

Category: Turning

I'm currently taking my first steps with an S120, but SIEMENS isn't making it easy for me. Right now, there are a lot of other priorities, so I hardly have any time to tinker. Whenever I find a spare five minutes, I either clean up a bit or start working on modifying or assembling the casing. I'm also testing alternatives for the missing limb guard. For now, I'm using feeler gauge material to see how it goes; I might end up buying a guard or a bellows from a good supplier in China.

Additionally, I'm continuing to work on the control panel. I'm having a lot of fun with the initial tests of the keypad, and I think it’s going to be really practical. I might even consider getting something similar as an addition to the handwheel on my FP3.

OK, T43 is i686
screenshot from latency attached for the 2 others.
I did run glxgears and a youtube video. The max. µs Value was half until I resized the glxgears window.

Well there is my favored refurbished dealer, offering T470 with touchscreen and 8GB RAM for 137,- EUR right now. might be the best idea..

The editor is hideously broken, but I suspect moving the current data  to a different system
would be a world of pain.

Really basic G-Code question ....How to change DRO value?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Let's say the current position is 0,0,0 (I'm at the origin) the machine is homed, and I want the machine to now think it's at 5, 0, 0

I imagine there is a gcode command to allow me to do this, so that the Axis DRO, changes from 0,0,0 to 5, 0, 0

Probe basic lathe config

Category: QtPyVCP

I had overlooked that line. Now everything is working.

I'd like to take this opportunity to ask you a question. I have a rotary encoder installed on the lathe for thread cutting, and my question is: is it necessary for Probe Basic to have a graphical rpm count in the interface for thread cutting? I'm not sure I explained myself correctly.
I still need to add the encoder and limit switches to the hal file.

Thank you for the compliments!

I have had pretty much the whole machine apart, and I had a few oil ports that were full of gunk as well. But those are all cleaned and open now. I did also open one of the metering valves in the past, and from my recollection it looked very similar to the photo you attached. And it does measure a certain amount every time the pump operates. The bubbles move a certain distance and then stop even if the pump is still running.

I made my own lubricator component, because I did not find anything else I liked. I have attached the component here, even though it is not 100% finished. It works much like you outlined. It runs the pump until the pressure switch activates, then runs the pump for 10 more seconds before it switches off. If it doesn't get the pressure feedback within 60 seconds it turns off and prints and error message. It runs the pump at first motion of the machine, and after that every time it has "accumulated" 10 min of motion.

To the best of my recollection, the bubbles move when the pump starts, and not when it turns off. But I am now travelling and unable to verify.

Thank you for the information. And if it's not too much trouble, it would be interesting to see the Vogel manual as well.

Unfortunately it's been like this for a while. We've all just to learnt to work with, editing is the biggest headache, the editor messes up the tags. Not much help I know but it is what it is.

How to install/select QtDragon?

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

OK found it. Not sure why it wasn't showing before but I now see a section called 'Sample Configurations'. Inside that is sim -> qtdragon ->qtdragon_xyz->qtdragon_metric. Once selected, it asks if you want to copy over the configuration files. Then it starts in qtDragon mode. No need for any manual copying of files. No need to edit any .ini files.
