tail /etc/apt/sources.list

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 12 _Bookworm_ - Snapshot amd64 LIVE/INSTALL Binary 20240721-21:05]/ bookworm contrib main non-free non-free-firmware

Adding a DRO and want to integrate with linuxcnc, recommended hardware?

Category: CNC Machines

Thank you all so much for the advice. I just ordered the following:
- 7I85 4 Channel encoder 5 channel Serial RS-422 interface
- 7I96 STEP/IO Step & dir plus I/O card
- DB25M-IDC26 CABLE 18"

And for encoders:
Digital Position Readout, 3-Axis Bluetooth for HiTorque Mini Mill (part number 5514)

It looks like the Little Machine Shop DRO kit uses magnetic strips that have A/B/Z (index) encoders, so I plan to swap out their Bluetooth box for the Mesa 7I85, but since it was on sale getting the Bluetooh box was basically free, so I figured why not get it too.

It will probably take me a while to get everything set up, but I'll report back!

- Andy

Did you ever figure this out? I also found this bug in probe screen v2.8: github.com/verser-git/probe_screen_v2.8/...probe_screen.py#L341

Increasing the timeout makes no difference as wait_complete always returns immediately. I'm also on linuxcnc 2.8.4

That does not seem right at all, i get this on Mint22
cnc@256NVME:~$ apt search python3-distro
i python3-distro - Linux OS platform information API
p python3-distro-info - information about distributions' releases (Python 3 module)
I am pretty sure it is an issue with repositories, probably from using and older ISO that had such issues, so Rod should have some info on how to fix that.
In the meantime, open "software sources" from the menu and try enabling other repositories (there are 3, something with romeo, unstable, source code, or similar).
You can do the same thing from the "synaptics package manager" if the above is missing.
Do and update first, then try apt search or apt install again.

Just went back and checked the messages here and there as i thought someone already answered, but no answer was there.
No worries, i will transfer my reply there and delete this after you get to read it so we keep both topics clean.
Thank you.

RLA,

Did you execute the following?

sudo apt install python3-distro

When I run I get the following error message.

rp1lib - user space driver for the RP1 chip

Category: Computers and Hardware

People may have been wondering why I have been a little quiet on the forum of late and that pull requests to Remora have been slow to be merged. Well, I've been working away on getting SPI on the Raspberry Pi 5 working so that we can support the SPI version of Remora. I'm now happy to share where things are up to.

github.com/scottalford75/rp1lib

The BCM2835 library was the inspiration, a library that gave access to all the chip peripherals. Hopefully the rp1lib can become the start of something similar.

Rather than reinventing the wheel, the library utilises the gpiochip_rp1 library for GPIO and I've adapted the kernel Designware driver for user space.

Next step is to update the Remora component, which is not too far off as I've got the RPi version detection working already.

Hmm, that is the useless package that is on Bookworm.

I am afraid that I am out of ideas. Maybe post in the installing linuxcnc  section.
