Ethercat installation from repositories - how to step by step

Category: EtherCAT

I think it is necessary to correct this misunderstanding and change the source codes so that the files in both installation options are in the same location. It took me a lot of effort to understand that the system contains remnants from the previous installation. And judging by the questions, I am not the only one who has encountered such a problem.

7i97t with 7i85?

Category: Driver Boards

Hello,

The only problem left with my retrofit is the lack of a second smart serial port on my 7i97t. I need one to connect a 7i84 that does al the I/O and the other one would be for a 7i73 in my control cabinet.
I tried getting the convertor board by talla83 to work and I'm done because it won't run. I`m now willing to buy my way out of the problem and just install a 7i85 to the expansion port. I have already flashed the bitfile for that as per your instructions . So I just need a 7i85 and a proper expansion cable.

Then I can connect the 7i73 with a butchered ethernet cable and also have connections for more encoders (spindle maybe and 4th axis) so I can justify saving my nerves by spending that extra money.

i would buy this combination:
eusurplus.com/index.php?route=product/pr...t_id=105&search=7i85
www.welectron.com/Mesa-Electronics-DB25M...O-Erweiterungskarten

Would that work with my 7i97t using my current bitfile 7i97t_7i85d.bin?

Building a chain driven Plasma table.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thanks for the info.
I already have Inkscape on my computer..
Did not know it works for generating code for plasma.
I have tried it without success .
After some searches on the internet I found some tutorials to create Gcode for routers.

Where can I find some tutorial for generating Gcode for plasma?

So now I have another question.
I still have to make a water table.
The machines Frame is 1.8 x is 3.3 meters.

I am planning to put a rotational axle for round pipes. Max diameter for pipes about 250mm

Maximum sheet size I am planning is 1250 mm x 2450 mm.

How big would you make the water table.
Is there a benifit of making it larger than the Methal you cut? I am thinking about splashing etc.

What material thickness do you guys use for the water tray? What thickness for the slats?

Ok, nevermind.  Was able to get the files off using a live-usb.  Going to reinstall Debian and start with a clean slate.

That Fanuc is an induction motor, not a PM.  They will run off a bog-standard VFD; the problem with Fanuc spindle motors is that they generally use a serial or proprietary encoder output that doesn't play well with 'standard' encoder inputs on drives.

First - disconnect your encoder from the VFD, and set the VFD to no-feedback.

The VFD 'wizard' should have an option to enter the basic nameplate data (FL amps, poles, ect.).  Try using that in V/F mode.

I've got a Mitsubishi SJ (similar to your Fanuc) I'm running off a GS3 VFD.

EDIT - Tommy's right.  Your voltage is wrong.  That's a 200v-class motor, can't use it with a 380v VFD unless the VFD can be programmed to drop the voltage to a different class.

EDIT 2 - DOH!

USB ports quit working?

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

(I know this problem isn't really about LCNC, but this forum is full of clever people who know way more about linux and computers than I do.)

Final testing of my ATC (rev2) and getting an error when I try to run M6 Tn via g-code.  M6 Tn works fine via MDI.

Error message was something about remap, pointed to emccannon.CHANGE_TOOL() not matching c++?  Cryptic, backstage code stuff I didn't understand.

Poked around a bit and discovered stdglue.py has been updated since I last updated LCNC, so tried running apt update/upgrade.  Failed due to some broken dependency.

Restart computer and now none of my USB ports work once the desktop has started.  Keyboard works at first boot - can select a kernel or recovery mode - but once the desktop starts I've got no way to do anything.  No mouse, no keyboard.  Unplugging/replugging doesn't fix.

Any ideas?  Even if I have to re-install everything I still need to get my latest config off the drive... it's got all the INI and HAL tweaks I've done in the past week for the ATC.

[Debian 12, 6.6.15-rt-amd, Xfce]

I feel that making this as an EtherCAT slave might open something of a licensing can of worms. But it already has Ethernet port for command input, and I would expect the STM32 to have the CPU horesepower to handle the protocol.

I don't think this will be a problem because the ethercat license is paid for in the price of the lan9252 chip.
If you were to manufacture these for commercial sale, you would need to be a company and register for free membership of the ETG to be compliant.
Its only linuxcnc who has a lcensing issue because we do not have any legal business structure.

After a quick run through i could not find any mention of induction or permanent magnet type.... Fanuc, that is really not nice.
Disconnect the motor from VFD, connect any two motor wires together and turn the shaft by hand, can you feel detent's and does it require more force to turn than when wires are not connected together?
If there are detents, it is a permanent magnet motor so it does not work with VFD, use a servo drive.
If it turns out to be an induction type, you can try settings on the VFD, there are several types of "drive modes" there, like Vector, triangle, sinusoidal, etc. These are just what i recall, been several years since i last set up a VFD.
Also, limit the current on the drive, you are using a 200V motor with a 380V VFD.

Got it. I ran up a new config with pncconf and indeed the ini file was missing

in the ini file. It must have been deleted along the way.

More useful than ethercat is 600vdc because opens the door
to more powerful from 2kw range servos like spindle servos and big cnc servos.
Except other igbt module to handle 600vdc better isolation better connectors
what other needs?
The modifications will be in power stage.. driving stage needs modification?
To all stmbl owners are you happy from stmbl ? Works like commercial servos?
