Magnetic scales on new gantry mill

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Megnetic are cheaper but more dust tolerant, just like rotary encoders.
Pros are price and dust/ contamimation tolerance, unless you get them full of steel shavings they will work.
Optical, glass scales will fail sooner than magnetic if you install them within fine dust presence area.
Big con is magnetic field sensitivity. Use of magnetic holders for coolant/air nozzles may shift your readings.
My(£100 motor and driver) magnetic encoder servo motors suffer so bad(plastic encoder covers) can make them rotate 3°(0.1mm axis move witn 10mm pitch screws) by putting magnetic indicator base next to them. Running spindle makes z motor 120mm away move the axis up/down 0.02-0.05mm and with right spindle speed it would start oscillating into oercurrent error. swapped the motor to optical encoder(£40 extra) and it all went away...

Qtdragon for lathe??

Category: Qtvcp

Hi, not sure if this is still in development, but I use Qtdragon on my mill and installed on my lathe retrofit. My lathe is tool down, is there an option to flip the arrow keys and jog buttons to match this? (The diameter should increase then pressing the down arrow key)

Rote LED

Category: Deutsch

If you get constant blinking red LEDs, this indicates a problems with the 5V supply,
perhaps insufficient current capability or too long power supply wires.

A solid red init LED is normal if LinuxCNC started and then communications
have been disrupted  (it indicates a watchdog timeout)

This may be a latency related issue.

To check network latency, run:

sudo chrt 99 ping -i .001  -q -c 60000 10.10.10.10

(this will run for 1 minute and print statistics)

Linuxcnc 2.4.5 with Ubuntu 10.04 , Terminated with Error!

I went to the file system
home/ jetmill1 / emc2 / configs / jetmill1 /
there seems to be several .ini files in that folder.
could it be looking at the wrong config file?

so it's perfect! if I think how much time I wasted with a nuc i3 to improve the latency without succeeding... I need it to tune up some drives that I recovered 2 years ago, now I also have the servos. if anyone knows these maybe they can give me some advice on how to use them in the best way.

Linuxcnc 2.4.5 with Ubuntu 10.04 , Terminated with Error!

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I cleaned up the lines , but It still wont load . In the file explorer, it looks like I have 2 different .ini files. Is there a way to properly clean up this mess , without starting over? Machine has direct drive steppers , and DRO Scales for position feedback , Tool probe also. I hate to try and reset all pins and parameters.

Thx.
Can’t tell if I still get would that error as I took the mesa out of the workshop and back into my “office” for bench testing and debugging.

Will apply the grub parameters today that you posted.
Currently I do have the following code in my grub customizer (guess I have to remove it).

quiet isolcpus= 3 pcie.aspm=0 r8168.eee_enable=0 pcie_aspm=off idle=poll

The arguments are slightly different (isolcpus 3 vs 2,3), but let’s see.

Replaced Hard drive - now my 'fast move' (SHIFT->arrow |PgUp/PgDn is not working

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Copy your config folder to the configs folder, open it, right click on the .ini file, choose open with, down click on use custom command, under it type linuxcnc, press enter.
Test the machine, does it work correctly?
If yes, run LinuxCNC from the main menu, left select My configs then your config, click on create desktop shortcut, click ok.
Now you have a shortcut on the desktop.

LinuxCNC-RIO - RealtimeIO for LinuxCNC based on FPGA (ICE40 / ECP5)

Category: Computers and Hardware

Quick question hopefully, I'm setting up my router with closed loop to the controller, apart from getting the scale right it's all working, my question is when you setup the scale in the pwm/dir config, it sets up the axis "scale in" to that, but leaves the scale out value at 1 or zero (can't remember exactly). At this value the axis will run away similar to having the encoder wires around the wrong way.

I can set it using the machine calibrate window within Linuxcnc but it gets overwritten every time setup is run. Then if you forget about it and an axis is close to end of travel, bad things can happen.

I've most likely just missed where to put in the scale out value but I can't seem to find it.

Cheers.
Russell.
