Wiring Mesa 7i95t inputs in parallel with DRO

Category: Basic Configuration

Oh my.
I go in expecting complicated because that's what I'm reading about and get TTL. <bangs head>
I now have numbers appearing in
  hm2_7i95.0.encoder.0?,count and .position
now to figure out what to do with them.
At the moment nothing goes beyond the inputs but...
Could I make it fine tune my position?
Is that realistic or will I just get the steppers oscillating wildly between the ends of my screw slop?

thanks guys

Danke fur die ruckmeldung.
Is that written correctly? I need more practice as i do not want to forget German. :)

2GB is not enough, 4GB is usable but 8GB are required for anything above the Wheezy version of LinuxCNC.
Still bad latency but i do not see the link being dropped, so this might just work.
First, enter the PC BIOS and disable hyperthreading, TPM, AMT, turbo, any power saving features, virtualisation, etc, then do another test.

You are welcomed, always.
Did you read the servo tuning and wiring on this forum? Can not recal if i did point to that, but that is a must for such retrofits.
forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-configura...ning-detailed-how-to
And while you are at it, please let me know if there is something that can be explained better or anything to add or remove.
Also, no skipping steps when wiring stuff, one by one step at a time. :)

Those are terribly horrible results ! :)
Was latency better before installing the DKMS drivers? Why and by who were you told to install DKMS?
If i recall correctly you had dropped link to Mesa board, but they were not from network issues, they were from huge latency issues, is this that topic?
Did you disable stuff in BIOS?
How much memory does the PC have?

>Not quite understanding your meanings. The PC is of 2Gb memory.
>Now I replace the computer with the old hard drive which stored old version Linuxcnc 2.8.4, for perserving purpose, no Linux undates/upgrades and network drive update on it. The latency test runs, attached are two pictures and the last picture shows  screen that the axis run without much problems

Good news…. So the book for the drivers benb posted isn’t like mine but close enough I kept reading it to see how those drives work. He also mentioned the digital inputs.
So I read back to make sure I didn’t misread what I read about external switches (essentially left/right drive disable).
Turns out I misinterpreted it or whatever but the books says something like this
“If no external interlocks are required wire them to signal common”.
So since I was on the bench I jumped each of them to common on the drive board.
Next section I read how the L/R disable works and it turns out the switches are switched to common to disable the drive in one direction. DOH!

Went straight to the box this am. Pulled my jumpers enabled the drive and I have motion in both directions.

And Tommy you are def correct. I listened this time and only used the 1.5v. Those drives move pretty good with that.

Anyway. Thanks again for everyone’s help. On to the tuning tutorial I suppose

Olli

Now I have plugged the 7i92 directly into the 7i76 and look, the encoder 04 now also works on the 7i76.
I must not have done a clean enough job when crimping
It will stay as it is now.
Thanks again for your help

Greetings
Olli

LinuxCNC-RIO - RealtimeIO for LinuxCNC based on FPGA (ICE40 / ECP5)

Category: Computers and Hardware

I am almost done. The Graphic in Overview, Hal and Axis works now.

rio.v and makefile OK.

One last issue: Warning: can not find toolchain installation in PATH: nextpnr (nextpnr-ice40)

Furthermore there is an error: loading joypad:: No module named 'fcntl'. No idea what I have to install here.

Joint homing offset and following error - HELP

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Just wanted to update, I spent many weeks verifying the wiring on the machine, and everything looked good from that standpoint. So I went back to the PID settings with a different approach, and have seemed to land on some stable settings that make the machine work correctly! The tool changer also needed some PID tuning and now seems to make all changes correctly.

Still have to set up the touch off probe and tool setter before I start making chips, but progress will be much slower with winter here :(

So wanted to thank everyone for offering help on this! When starting out you don't know what you don't know, and that made getting to this point difficult.

7i95T convert all step/dir to PWM? was created by heathmanc

7i95T convert all step/dir to PWM?

Category: Driver Boards

I’ve got an issue. I have a 7i95T board and Pico Systems brushless DC drivers that take PWM input. I assume I need a new firmware to convert all step/dir to PWM? Can anyone help me?  Additionally, I assume this won’t interfere with the 2 serial ports?

Probe Basic - ATC sim parameter question

Category: QtPyVCP

I'm most interested in using a non linuxcnc axis output to move a stepper motor for carousel motion, I'm fine with the rest of the macros being required and it being somewhat hybridized.

for the load tool not in carousel, I will be doing some extensive rewrites on the atc macros very soon which is what prompts my question, I would like to try and do both the "all macro" and "carousel comp/macro hybrid" edits in parallel while my mind will be saturated with the knowledge...lol I'm sure you can appreciate the benefit in that, its a good bit to keep track of and much easier when its all fresh in the brain.

The new data Base tool table feature is going to be a game changer for probe basic as it will add quite a bit of awesome functionality for those using atc's. the ability to have tool parameters stored and be accessible in the DB to be used in macros will make all the difference in what can be automated and simplified.

I am pretty excited to start work on it, just shoring up a few things in the shop before I can get to it. if you want to share what you have going on that would be a great start I'm sure!

Thanks Spumco!
