FernV

That sounds like the update script 2.8 pre uses to update the older ini. For joint axis branch. Andy wrote it.

Creates an old folder for backup purposes.

I think you hit it exactly. I had the exact problem myself when I was running Master and attempted to get NativeCam going. NativeCam worked stand alone in terminal BUT when I tried embedded Master modified my INI file making the changes to axis's and adding joints. Andys routine in Master is what did it. This caused NativeCam to not run.

When I switched over to 2.7.8 release all was cured and NativeCam worked fine. Master automatically modifying my INI file is what caused the problem. 2.7.8 does not automatically run Andys axis/joint routine so NativeCam works nicely.
Fern will have to make changes to cure this issue, Master will eventually become the release version.

This is fun Isn't it, today's error:
I setup linuxcnc fresh install yet again, this time I pulled the git lcnc, at the same time as the NativeCam.
Followed the instructions then went to stepconf wizard and couldn't config a machine with this error.

That is due to using "sudo" where you should have not used it, now Linuxcnc has no write permission to that folder.
Try this
Sudo thunar
If using debian wheezy or
Sudo nautilus
If using mint
Navigate to Linuxcnc folder located in your home folder ( usualu when thunar or nautilus opens, you get desktop documents and linuxcnc ), right click on it and choose properties, select permisions in the uper portion of the window, change the permissions to read and write for user cncuser in your case.
Start stepconf, it should work as usual but linuxcnc might still have permission issues.

Cheers Tommylight that put me back on track.

It was actually because I was using a root terminal when I pulled and installed and not using sudo when should have but same meat different gravy init?
I did net install of Stretch and lxde-core this time just to play then changed kernel and then cloned the gits.

Glad you got it working.
As a general rule, never use a root terminal, you cam do a lot of damage to the system and you do not get any warning. Sudo on a normal terminal will at least warn you if you are about to mess something up.

Tom

Bad practice I know but I get fed up with su and sudo I often work as root despite all the warnings.

hi fernand.

it is posible ther is a littel bug with the engraphing?

when i want mill a word the first character is ok and the milling tool goes to z minus with G1 .
when lcnc starts the second character the tool goes to Z minus with G0 .

not so good for the lifetime of the tool.

pehaps its my mistake ?

I did not find a bug in the generated file but I found a few minor issues I will fix, like raising the mill at the end of a letter and plunging at vertical feed instead of normal.

hi fernand.

yes i think this is the problem that the tool goes to Z minus with the horizontal feed speed and not with the vertical.

here is my ncam.ngc

thanks a lot
