Note on custom jog rate selection buttons in x1Mill gui.

In the 1xMill gui jog rate is determined by the states of the following buttons; position jog mode, linear jog mode, angular jog mode, and slow and fast jogging buttons. For actual rate values it uses the values produced by six slider type widgets. It also includes logic required to output the correct jog rate value for any combination of buttons and value changes made by the slider type widgets.

The eleven items of this group produce two signals, a jog rate value for each possible combination of buttons and a fast/slow selection signal that will interface with linuxcnc. This group of eleven items can be considered as being a custom action widget.

The use of separate slow and fast jogging buttons help reduce human errors during fast slow selection process.

What does position, angular and linear modes change?

Qtdefault has similar capabilities though in a different idiom.
Though it doesn't do angular jogging as the screen doesn't support more then 3 axis.
It also has only 3 jog increments.

i think your jogging screen would make a great widget for qtvcp

What does position, angular and linear modes change?

They really do not change anything but instead provide a way to access arrays of buttons that can be set up to handle common movement tasks and each having its own jog rate speed controls. To allow for these three small panels were designed into the 1xMill gui to handle these features.

The three panels are the upper sub panels of the main jogging panel and called up by the Position, Linear and Angular buttons:

Position:
Buttons and slow/fast rate control for common multi axis positioning. Provides a way to move to 8 common positions which a user will be able to define. More can be added at the expense of requiring a reduction in button size and thus a reduction in its available label space.

Linear:
Buttons for linear axis jog step size selection and associated jog rate controls. Currently 16 step sizes can be set up.

Angular:
Buttons - Similar to the position selector buttons but meant to be used for movements that in degrees like for a rotary axis.

The usefulness of these features depends on how a user operates a milling machine but the features are there and I suspect that they will come in handy based on my own experience. Since they are in close proximity to the main jogging buttons hand and arm movement is minimized to use them.

I forgot to mention that the OnBoard keyboard does not shut down when the gui is closed. With all my testing of trying to get the dialogs in the right places I had 15 OnBoard icons on the bottom of my screen.

So far no luck with getting the dialogs to show up in the desired places. I attached the preferences file. The time stamp indicates it does not get written to. I renamed the file.

Position mode - now I understand!

Did you try Onboard to see if it actually works on an entry?
You can try matchbox-keyboard too.

I looked at the preference file and even if it was using it they would go where they should. What distribution and window manager are you using? probably Debian I'd guess. The window manager has alot of control over where things go - it may be screwing things up...I use Mint - but i'll see if I have a Debian version to test on.

Did I mention I really like your screen - you have packed a lot in there!

I tried it with Debian - wheezy I think and xfce desktop - Dialogs worked fine.
To help further I think you are going to need to create a branch with a sample config that I can download and test.
