You are exactly right about that being buggy Andy. First I had no icon, but my Linux Guru helped me open the network manager through a terminal. That got the board communications working. I have seen as many as 5 instances of the icon up in the Top right.
The 7i92 is working and "Show pin" outputs a normal lookin list with the SS interefaces and encoder pins I would expect with the 7i85SX2D bit file. I have thee 7i92 and 7i85 jumpered for the 7i92 to provide power, and get a power on light. Is it normal there are no 7i85 named pins shown? When I connect a SS daughter board to SS0, I only get a red watchdog fail, and no pins.Any ideas what I need to do there?
Alexandre, cool that you have a Schaublin, but that 32 CNC mill has nothing at all in common with the 125-CNC lathe. There is no point discussing it in the middle of this thread where any knowledge gained will get buried. Please create a new thread. To you quaestion "Without this manual is it possible to retrofit?" We believe any machine can be retrofitted with LinuxCNC. If you cant interface to those drives, you will probably need to replace the drives though.

Start LinuxCNC from the command line and see what Mesa devices get enumerated.
(Also make sure that the 7i85 isn't jumpered to setup mode)

Hi Andy,
What do you mean by setup mode? The 7i85 only has:
- W3 (5V external, or from the FPGA Card) I have it jumpered UP for FPGA Power.
- and a bunch of jumpers to select each encoder between TTL and RS-422. I have not touched them, they are all in the default DOWN = RS 422 position.
The 7i92 is jumpered:
-W5 and W6 UP - Breakout power to daughter card.
-W3 Down W4 Up- Fixed IP 10.10.10.10
Mark.

Sorry, I thought that the 7i85 was a smart-serial device. (like the 7i83, 84 and 87)
It is actually a passive interface and so there will _not_ be any pins identifying as 7i85. Instead the encoders / io will all appear as 7i92 pins.

Have you started the realtime thread? Are the 7i92 read and write cycles added to the thread? Thanks Andy. Any ideas why a 7173 connected to SS0 would only have a steady red LED (Watchdog failure)?
