It took a fair bit of dicking around to get UEFI deactivated and Linux reinstalled, but the latency is now way better. Thanks a lot for the suggestion Tommy.

Now I have to remember what I did to connect to the 7i92 a couple of days ago :) Wish me luck!

That NM-tray applet is really flaky. I have two instances in the task bar now, but saw up to 6 instances before. On my install, right clicking, and selecting "edit connection" does nothing.

nm-connection-editor &
brought up the window to edit the IPv4 settings on my last OS install, but now gives a "command not found".

Any ideas how else I can get in to edit the IPv4 config to change the IP to 10.10.10.11?

Running nm-tray --help, and then clicking on the trays "edit connection" button, returned this...

... which tells me the editing window didn't start (no shit!). :) Any ideas how to address this appreciated.

Seems there was a similar bug in Ubuntu in 2018, that NM-Tray calls xterm as the editor, and xterm is not installed.wonder what I can break with sudo apt-get install xterm......
okay that worked (once I move the pc up into the office and reconnected to the internet).
Xterm has to be the ugliest editor ever.
But I can finally connect back up to the 7i92. WooHoo!
I again made a PNFConf HAL hal, and then removed everything but the header.
I still dont have any 7i73 pins, and it still has that red watchdog LED glaring at me. What is the correct syntax for the sserial_port call?
I have tried the one below, but also 0000000.

loadrt [EMCMOT]EMCMOT servo_period_nsec=[EMCMOT]SERVO_PERIOD num_joints=[KINS]JOINTS
loadrt hostmot2
loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" config=" num_encoders=5 num_pwmgens=1 num_stepgens=2 sserial_port_0=0000xx"
setp hm2_7i92.0.watchdog.timeout_ns 5000000
