Mesa hm2/hm2_7i96s.0: error finishing read

I decided to look for a non-debian distro and spurred on by Joco's post  below settled on  Arch Linux
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...nc-2-9-on-arch-linux

There is an installer but I could not get  it to write to the HDD. So I followed this video to install it the long way round

Its very comprehensive and includes sections on UEFI and encrypted HDD's which you don't need to watch. Its quite a low level tutorial on Linux,

I've now got an XFCE desktop with Preempt_RT installed. The wifi and network just came up. So I just have to work out how to set a fixed ip address and get on with building linuxcnc which is the easy bit.

I figuured it would be nice to get away from all the Debian issues we've experienced. They say Arch uses plain Linux so hopefully, they leave out the yucky stuff Debian has included. Time will tell.

Well, its taken a while but I now have a RIP instance on ArchLinux with xfce installed and running qtplasmac connected to a 7i76e
I had one hiccup with incorrect permissions on BWidget which prevented linuxcnc from opening. I documented the soluution in the Arch thread here in the forum I shared earlier.
The ping times are significantly faster (around 1 ms)
Initially, I got some errors about smart serial being too slow but after adding isolcpus=2,3 using grub-optimizer, that seems to have gone away.
So I've had quite enough of Linux for one day!

I'll leave this for a few hours but I think the error finishing read is fixed! What a nightmare to get here on this particular PC.

Servo period and timeout make little difference. mint 21 with homebru kernel 6.1 rt cant get this figured yet.
see attached

Just thought of tcp_nodelay?

It does not look like you've followed the steps here
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/man/man9/hm...FACE%20CONFIGURATION
Do that and share the same output.
Then if you get erorr finishing read, with linuxcnc running, share the output of
halcmd show param hm2*tmax*

I think i have worked out how to install the linuxcnc bookworm debs on arch linux. It worked for mesaflash last night, now to try on the big debs!
