I have both ends of the wire. They return to a 50 pin break out board, then from there they go to a relay board. I have not tried to trace them thru the relay board.
I have a 7i77 card.
to connect all the wires I would need a total of 14 wires connected.
As for the hal, I have been using pncconfig wizard. Not really linux literate. I can understand some of the code people post but not really my thing.

I think for the retrofit the relay board and breakout might be superfluous.
The basic scheme is +field voltage and -field voltage to the 7i77 field voltage connector, to provide references. Then each limit switch connects to + field voltage on one end, and a 7i77 input on the other. (and then the return to 0V field is internal to the 7i77.)
It sounds like you have 9 limit switches in total,

I think you are still in the zone that Pncconf can handle.

Only 7 limit switches for now.I have not looked into the tool changer yet.
Also for the 7i77 card I would add one side to the field power (tb2) on the card, the other to tb7 pins 1-7 ????

This is for pcw hoping to get some guidance on writing in the limit switches on the 7i77 card. I have 7 pairs of wires in a n/c setup that had 20 volts except when engaged. Any info would be appreciated

+24V --> 7I77 field I/O power = TB2 pin 1 (bottom)
24V common --> 7i77 field I/O Common - TB2 pin 8 (top)
the switch/proximity switch wiring really depends on how its wired currently
for switches its
+24V --> switch --> 7I77 field input
for PNP proxes its
+24V --> PROX+
24V common --> prox common
prox-out --> 7I77 input
24V common --> 7i77 field I/O Common - TB2 pin 8 (top)

Ok had a little surprise here, and need some help.
I ran PncConfig wizard, set up all my axis and spindle, wired in my limit switches, and applied 24v dc field power from a radio shack transformer.
well when I was done linux would not let me select the config file from pncconfig. I could click on it, but OK was shaded.
So, i tried re booting the PC.
thats when it got interesting. As soon as the system restarted BANG the transformer blew.
Just for some info I have a 7i77 5i25 combo.
My limit switches are 3 per axis.
my x axis home and y axis home are N/O switches.
all the rest are N/C switches.
one side of all the switches are wired to TB7 0-8
the other side is wired togther to a block then to 24 volt field power TB6 2
the transformer was wired to tb6 1-8
So my questions, why did the transformer blow
2nd why wont linux let mestart with my config file.
any answers would be great.

If you mean a 24VDC wall adapter (an transformer puts out AC)
one possibility is reversed polarity
Assuming you wired the + 24V field power to TB2 pin 1 (Bottom of P2)
and 24V common to TB2 pin 8 (top pin of P2),
You should get a yellow field power light on the top middle of the 7I77 card
You are scaring me little a bit mentioning TB6 as that is the serial
expansion interface and does not want any pin connected to 24V
one possibility is reversed polarity

opps tb2 is correct
Also it was a board mount transformer 24v 500 milli amps
