There is something odd in how my steppers sound = stuttering sound.

Listen to this!

Have been playing around with
STEPLEN = 6000
STEPSPACE = 1500

Started with 6000/6000 and it got better but not smooth with 1500.

Can anybody explain what is going on?

The steppers are OLD 5-phase Berger&Lahr with original drivers

The stepspace setting should make _NO_ difference at all unless you are running into the
maximum step rate ( this would be 83.333 KHz with 6000/6000 steplength/stepspace settings
that is 1/12000 ns)

So the remedy would be slowing down the step rate. Will try that.

I am a bit surprised that I get nowhere near the speed I had with Mach3, same PC.
But on the other hand I do not need that crazy speed anyways, just what I noticed.

Any Ideas on what can be wrong with not getting the VFD going?

That's not what I said, The 7I76E is capable of 10 MHz step rates and this is totally independent of the
computer that controls it.

If you have a steplength and stepspace setting of 6000/6000 you will be limited to 83.333 KHz step rate
because any faster would violate those timings.

Unless you are running into this limit (83 KHz at 6000/6000), the stepspace setting has Zero influence on the
pulse train generation. So I suspect you have either an electrical issue or a hal setup issue of some kind

OK, then it must be something in hal as it's been running for years flawlessly with Mach2 and Mach3.

I have had some error message about running latency test and ..... something

If you get latency errors when running LinuxCNC, this needs to be addressed before proceeding

So how do I do that?

This PC is the same model I use in my milling machine and it is not complaining but as I recall it is just about to fix this.

I have been running Latency test and it is about 100000 or a bit less. Where do I insert new numbers into hal to reflect this?

Managed to find the old manual for Berger Lahr 5-phase driver and timings are 5µs

Did run the pawn gcode and it works except the spindle,

BUT the spindle runs only in M4 and only at fixed speed so no + - works.
