OK I will try to do that if not today so hopefully tomorrow.
I'm a bit nauseous, we've got a lot of snow today and it feels heavy after all the work.

So feeling a bit better after dinner, here my findings.

1. Here I had switched OUT and +
SPINDLE -
SPINDLE OUT
SPINDLE +

Still same that it spins only reverse with S300 M3 = is 200 in reality but it spins when commanded
M4 = no reaction at all.

Cheers
Bengt

Sounds like your VFD is setup for FWD/REV instead of ENABLE/DIRECTION
edit
Or you have DIRECTION and ENABLE swapped

I did test to swap DIR / ENA = no go

So how to connect FWD/REV ?

I would first figure out how your VFD works

This does not require LInuxCNC or any hardware other than the VFD and couple of wires

Then if your VFD is setup for FWD/REV, see if it can be setup for DIR/ENABLE (drive manual)

If it is FWD/REV only, the 7I76E requires a external SPDT relay to control VFDs in that mode

If I recall it correctly there was a relay when running with Mach.

This VFD is mid 70's so to find a manual is not possible. Samco-V SVH

Something like this and net spindir to Out 5 as in schematic.
Relays are already wired from 7i76e.

I have noticed same problem I had earlier that when driven from PC the spindle rpm is not steady = pulsating occasionally
Did believe that it was the crude PWM to Voltage adapter used with Mach that was bad but obviously not as it is the same
with 7i76e Spindle control.
Solved this when using Mach to use a switch to external potentiometer = only needed when threading to get stable rpm.

I take it that *PC* is bogging down the 5VDC supplied power from VFD. Original pot is 3Kohms

Have been searching for original schematics/notes from 2003/2004 when the lathe was modified to Mach2, but no luck.

So here is how it must have been connected to switch from PC to manual potentiometer. Will rewire and connect this again.

Why does this not work?

No reaction on relays so I assume outputs in question are busted (as well as the Spindle encoder input on this 7i76e)

I will have to net spindle.enable and spindle.dir to other outputs.

So, now I have M3 working, relays connected as above.
net spindle-enable Hm........output-06
net spindle-dir hm.......output-05

But Only forward is working. Relays work OK.
So there must be something wrong in how relay outputs are connected to VFD.

1. Enable from VFD common to Enable(run) must always be connected to either run Forward or Reverse
2. To Revers Common to Revers must be connected

I am too tired to sort this one out, so be kind and help me here.

Cheers
Bengt
