AXIS_0]
TYPE = LINEAR
HOME = 0.0
FERROR = 1e9 Correct?

What does this change do, will it affect anything else than this following error?

I really appreciate you taking time to help me out here!

it will just prevent you for getting following errors regardless of stepgen behaviour
( you could also just set the ferror limts to the machine position limits)

The DPLL plot is so bad it makes me wonder if you are actually running on a real time kernel

What does uname -a print?

Will go down and start up the PC again.

Same PC on my milling machine and it works OK, only difference is in Grub as this on my lathe is supposed to be able to go WiFi. It takes ages to boot up so I may have to edit Grub to get rid of this WiFi.

So, 1e9 did magic in a sense that now Z axis is smooth as silk but still NoGo for X axis = following error.

uname -a

On the other hand no change in hal without encoder as regards stuttering = go figure what is going on here.

The following error setting can have no influence on axis smoothness, it only sets the following error limit
( if its exceeded you get the joint following error and a halt )

Did you set both axis 0 limits to 1e9?

If you still got a X following error and both limits are really 1e9 , this mean something very basic is broken
in the PC, FPGA card or installation, because it basically means either the commanded or feedback
stepgen position has wildly out of position numbers
