i opened it bc it was a link and i copied everything in there and pasted it in /home/user/linuxcnc/configs/the_plasmac_cutter/the_plasmac_cutter_connections.hal
i just did it again to be certain

When i open the file you posted it takes me to here

I'm opening linux from a shortcut that is created when i go to applications>CNC>Linuxcnc>the_plasmac_cutter> and check the box "create shortcut"
im not sure what you mean by what command am i using to run linuxcnc

You could right click the attachment and save it directly.
Try from a terminal:

It only says save as link. when i run that in the terminal i get this
