I did install memtest on USB and it boots and is running memtest86+ test right now, about ½ way and no errors so far.

Also I noticed that after remove irqbalance the latency values got a bit worse.
So many variables that can go wrong.

Looks like you got a bit of a lemon, was it brand new or second hand ?

I went with one of these, it's going in a cabinet with all the bits & pieces, probably not a solution for you.

And one of these SSD's. The vendor sent me a 16GB module even tho I ordered an 8GB :)

Might even consider one of those 12v mini supplies.

New used ;)

Sorry but loose parts gets more expensive than a BRIX or a NUC and those small boxes are neat as I have lack of space ;)
If I had the money I would buy a better PC but on my pension it is not going to happen just now.

Man your sure have let ALL the gremlins in at once it would seem.

Something could have gone a bit wrong with the install....I dunno I'm kinda just guessing.

From my side of the world this was the better option price wise. Plus I do have the use of the on board Parallel port if required.

Does the compiling have to be done in the actual PC?

Not really but both PC's, the build machine and the machine that will run Linuxcnc, would have to have the same version of mint installed and software packages would have to match, ie: both updated to the same packages.

I actually downloaded Mint 18.3 the other day and I was going to install it a virtual machine and nut out the build and install of Linuxcnc for you. Can still give that a try if you'd like.

I'm quite happy to do all I can to help out.

Well if you would do that for me I would be most grateful, Mint did perform** well only downside was not getting anywhere with LCNC.

** isolcpus applied as I recall

Ok my friend I shall get on to it tomorrow, it's getting on for bedtime Down Under .

Actually I'll install it on the setup I'm going to use for my mill and just hook up a spare drive. Then I can run some tests and see where we stand.

I think we can rule out memory error

Gone 2 passes no errors.

Tried once again with no isolcpus = hangs almost immediately so isolcpus=2,3 is a must for this NUC to work in 64bit.
Will have to run more tests but I am not so happy about this NUC as it behaves like this with Debian.

Maybe the work ozzyrob puts down with a new Mint 18.3 + LCNC compilation will get thing to work, maybe?

This NUC is so unreliable as it hangs all the time!
