Well guys, I do believe that this is the end of the road for this PC.
I do not think it will cut whats incoming in future as regards OS and LCNC.
Need to find a somewhat future proof PC on my more or less non-existing budget as I am on pension for new toys. So I need 2 new PC's one for the lathe and another for the milling machine.
Suggestions on what to look at is much appreciated.
Mini-ITX or smaller and single power, minimum 3 USB ports, ETH + WiFi if possible

Have you tried "rolling back" to 2.7.12?
I wouldn't throw in the towel with the hardware yet.

No LAN for some time until I get new exchanged LAN parts.
I can dig the PC out and bring it up to my house and try to do this but that will put me on 2.7.12 for the future and I 'm not so sure I want to stay there == IF IT WORKS.
As PCW wrote he suspects the OS upgrade that happened to be the culprit

Well at least it'll get you operational until you can get the funds together....
I know the feeling of limited funds, I've been out for way too long with back problems. Part of the problem is employers are reluctant to give you a go.

Well a roll-back to 2.7.12 did not work well = same problem still
So next question, can I roll-back my OS?

With a bit of luck you be able to select advance options on the grub boot menu and boot with the older kernel maybe 4.9.0-3 or something similar if there is an entry for it.
You maybe lucky and it's just a kernel issue.
I have no experience with the NUC platform...Hopefully Rod might chime in, I know he uses one.

Sorry but that did not help either
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...-t-f?start=30#112066
I get the same error as in picture above.
So is it the PC or is it something MESA related?
Just a note, I have done the same route on my milling machine = same type PC same Touch install and update/upgrade and all seems to work OK.

Peter, is this PC usable or just a tad too slow?
