I have 2 CNC lathes and a CNC router. I upgraded to LinuxCNC 2.713 and found the lathe stepconfig would write the files and the launcher but the Lathe launcher would not start LinuxCNC.
The stepconfg for the router worked OK.
I reinstalled LinuxCNC 2.7.0 on all my machines to get them working again.
Please check out the lathe stepconf on this version.

I dont have any direct experience with a N3700 based PC but since its about the same performance as a J1900 its probably OK (and about 4-5x as fast as your Atom 230)

OK thanks for that info Peter.
Do you have anything else I could test to eventually find out what is the problem here = PC , 7i76e+7i85 or something else.
Cheers
Bengt

I would check that you are not losing power or something on the 7I76E
If its an Ethernet issue of some kind, I think the easiest thing is to try a different PC
(actually any PC even a windows one should be able to ping the 7I76E reliably for hours/days)

So what you say is that an upgrade of LCNC would rewrite INI and HAL files in your config folder?
Very hard to believe that this would happen.
I am sure someone will chime in and tell if that is possible.

Tested to remove the PC (same type) from my Milling Machine and copied CNC3000 files and did run a test on my lathe = RUNS LIKE A CHARM with 2.7.13
So that awful man MrMurphy did visit me during the update/upgrade and made something go wrong as regards ETH as it seems.
So I will try out the N3700 based PC descirbed earlier.
Thank you guys for pointing me out in right directions here, much appreciated.
Cheers

So guys, the NUC5PPYH + 4G + 120G HDD has landed.
But it will not run OK, hanging for no reason from time to time.
Tried a new fresh install = same problem.
Now I have a plain Mint 18.3 and all runs as expected with no issues.
So what do you guys recommend to run as test so I can get my RT_PREEMPT to run without issues.

If its a video hang you might try
i915.enable_rc6=0 i915.enable_dc=0
in the grub config
Or use Mint18 but thats a longer path...
Another option is to upgrade the kernel to the latest realtime kernel (4.16)

Can not edit/save grub as it hangs all the time (reboot and it hangs after password etc etc etc)
I get nowhere with Debian on this PC. Will try to poke around in BIOS to see if I can get something to work.
