RPi5 works great, add a Nvme drive and boot times are about 10 seconds to desktop.
Waveshare do a great enclosure with two boards, one gives you full size HDMI ports and the can either be Nvme interface or extra USB ports or extra ethernet, unfortunately it's a Realtek based device.
Now Tommy is comparing a second corporate PC with a brand new RPi5, what would be the difference in price compared to building a new PC ?
There are lots of choices out there. Best bet is browse the forums spend some time reading what others have used.
But for crying out loud do not use any form of Artificial Intelligence, a lot of humans haven't gained Actual Intelligence yet.
Now make sure you use quality PSUs, Genuine Meanwell units are a great option. Keep the mains AC on one side of your control cabinet, and the low voltage on the other. Endeavour to keep your wiring neat, it helps to keep noise down and helps with trouble shooting and on that topic, wire one section at a time and test. Once again trouble shooting is far easier.
Become familiar with the Mesa manuals, yes as they say RTFM, it helps.
But this is the most important bit of advice I can give, have fun. And take a break when you feel it's becoming a chore.
All the best

Getting (hopefully) close to an Rtelligent build

Category: EtherCAT

It looks like you are doing well. Servo tuning is standard procedure for servos, there should be one or more guides for that here in the forum.
Maybe you already know you can use "ethercat download" to set the value of a sdo. Easier to change gain etc when tuning.
When it works fine, sdoconfig.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've got an install CD with Ubuntu 12.04. When I'm able to proceed to loading screen its says Linux 3.4-9-rtai-686-pae. I also noticed that time was off and changed time. I guess I need to change the battery as well. Now it shows error:
buffer I/0 error on device sda3. Ive ordered a new SSD but have no idea how to copy my old disk

If you installed a regular mesa then it isn't built with panfrost support. There's also no need to block mali, but maybe you should enable the panthor overlay instead, that's the follow up of panfrost for the mali g610.
The panthor driver and panfrost driver are in the kernel included so I doubt that it's a kernel issue.

It might have been easier to start with an image with 3d acceleration support. Mine also shows llvm (old bookworm image) but never felt the need for more since it's fast enough for my use. Now I'm compiling mesa though, so I'll let you know if that's all you need.

You can test the laptop without installing anything, download the ISO from the downloads page, write it to USB, use that USB to boot the laptop from it (see BIOS settings for booting from USB for your laptop on google), then run latency test from the main menu while browsing youtube.

Fro your file (as i have no clue if this is the issue)
<#factor> = 1 (Adjust for metric)
Probably should be
#<factor> = 1 (Adjust for metric)

When I try to execute the attached macro from MDI in GMOCCAPY or AXIS I get the error:

Bad character '<'

Can't find anything incorrect in the file which I have attached. I went so far as to comment out all of the lines and just tried to open a LOG file to see where the error might be, but the error occurs before the file is opened.

An extra pair of eyes would be most appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Perfect. So I use a laptop with Linux for that. Now I have one with Windows. I think Linux could be installed while keeping the current OS (I don't know if there's anything I need to know “in advance”).

My motor drivers are CL57T with Nema24 coded motors. I'm looking to assemble this driver and motor with the 7i96S board.

My Sherline Linux CNC Ubuntu PC won't start

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

'm running Sherline CNC with their PC with I believe Ubuntu. What can I do here? I'm not familiar with Linux but there was no sign that something bad with SSD before. Ive got such experience with dying SSD on MacBook but it showed a clear error in the begging so I could copy the file system and remount it on a new SSD. I've got install CD but can't figure out what's wrong

PlasmaC Beveling cut

Category: Plasmac

Can you program QtPlasmaC to make a bevel cut and how to do it.

No, not easily, but you can use CAM software to do that and use it with QtPlasmaC.
There was talk of adding 4th axis for cutting square tube, i do not recall it was actually done.
In general, that is not something LinuxCNC should do, it is CAM's responsibility to output correct gcode for the machine, LinuxCNC is for running that gcode on the actual machine.
Even with CAM it is quite complicated to do 4th and 5th axis as that changes actively tool center point on all directions, so it will not be just click to export gcode.
Sorry i can not help more.

I forgot to mention, i do not like RPI for machine control, at all, but i do understand why others like it and use it, but the thing i can not justify is the price, for the same price you can get a used Lenovo laptop with touch screen even, but i can not advise getting laptops as they might end up not having good latency. I have probably 6 or 7 laptops like that in daily use without issues, but i am sure some might not be good.
