Probe_Basic Bugs?

Category: QtPyVCP

ok update...today i got a working 3 and a working 4 axis plot to my machine configuration...the 3 Axis working plot is just fine all buttons working correctly.but in the 4th axis plot the Zero B button did not work. DRO works correctly to my b axis.and when i do single ref for all axis (not refall button) i cant jog my machine and become a error like this from the attachment.

is this an error from porbe_basic or from linux_cnc? iám running linux cnc 2.9.0 pre ...

edit: I solved the Zero B error... G10 L2 P{ch[0]} B0.0 needs to be G10 L20 P{ch[0]} B0.0

Power Supply and Line driver encoders

Category: Driver Boards

Hi,
I'm working on building a 3 axis CNC inspection system. There will be 2 Y axes with one as the slave axis. I plan to use linear encoders on all X, Y and Z axes. For this, I have got the 7i96S and 7i85 Mesa boards. I had two queries regarding the electrical circuits.
  • The power supply rating is 5 V. Is a 5V 2A PSU suitable?
  • The datasheet for 7i85 says that the RS422 encoders should be terminated with a 120 Ohm resistor and a 26LS32 RS-422 differential receiver. What would the circuit look like in this case? For reference, this is the encoder I plan to use, in the Line Driver model. m.alibaba.com/x/16C29T?ck=pdp
I'm very much new to this, so I apologize if these are very basic queries. I'd really appreciate any insights.

I have used Matrixkins and it is very useful, but you need to compile the comp file yourself

Ethercat installation from repositories - how to step by step

Category: EtherCAT

I'm also seeing issues with the GPG-keys in 2.9.3. I just did a fresh install from the iso found on linuxcnc.org/downloads/ and the first command i ran was:
thomas@LinuxCNC-dev:~$ sudo apt update

...not sure why it isn't working...

I'm but no means a Linux guru, so my attempt to fix this was to try to jumble together a solution from this thread. I ended up fetching a new key:
KEYRING=/usr/share/keyrings/ethercat.gpg && curl -fsSL https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/science:/EtherLab/Debian_12/Release.key | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee "$KEYRING" >/dev/null
...but that didn't work, so i ended up deleting the old keys and copying the new one into their place:
sudo rm /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/science_EtherLab.gpg.key.*
sudo cp /usr/share/keyrings/ethercat.gpg /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/science_EtherLab.gpg.key.binary.gpg
sudo cp /usr/share/keyrings/ethercat.gpg /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/science_EtherLab.gpg.key.chroot.gpg

...i'm pretty sure this isn't the correct way to fix it, but now i can run apt update without errors. Maybe it can help someone else. I believe this is a bug in 2.9.3, since it was a completely fresh install(with available internet connection) and it was literaly the first command i ran and it failed...

LinuxCNC-RIO - RealtimeIO for LinuxCNC based on FPGA (ICE40 / ECP5)

Category: Computers and Hardware

That is really cool, once I have my existing machine fully tested I intend to start playing around with all the extra stuff you've implemented. When you say several devices per bus, is that now as per the standard i2c protocol, so 128 devices ? I understand that lots of i2c devices only have a couple of address options so that doesn't help.

Intel nuc question

Category: Computers and Hardware

Are there any issues using a intel nuc to run Linux Cnc?

Other than the NUC I had  failing totally before my eyes on an office machine and the subsequent fight with INtel to get warranty does not engender confidence.

And below it said use raspi imager,

As cornholio says, use balena etcher and it will install. A bug in the upstream installer we use broke the rspi Imager which is not as robust as etcher

LinuxCNC 2.9.x hand wheel xhc-whb04b OFF/ON problem

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

A wireless one is no option for me.
The only way to use it now, is not to use the ON/OFF switch. But I know that I will use it instinctively.

I hope there will be a fix for this.

Fast Hole EDM from Hacked Parts

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Here is an update.  I have plugged the positive from my EDM power supply into pin 13 TB2 and the negative into pin 14 TB2 on the Mesa. I then evaluated pin hm2_7i96s.0.periodm.00.duty_cycle using hal meter. The number is jumping around like crazy. It got a little better when I remembered to change the jumpers to TTL. Now it fluctuates only on the low end.

I have tried shielded cable. I have tried a RC filter with a .1 uF capacitor and a 3.3 kOhm resistor.  I tried switching the red and black cables around.  I tried tying the black to ground.  The signal becomes 0 if either the red or black wire is removed from the mesa pin 13,14.  But I cannot get a signal that makes sense.  The signal jumps around even when the EDM supply is turned off and remains unchanged even when the EDM is cutting.

I currently think that maybe the problem lies in the sampling rate.  Or perhaps it has something to do with the pin.  I think the issue is in the Linux side but I could be wrong.  I will try using the oscilloscope more tomorrow.

If anyone has ideas please let me know.

Best,
-Dylan

Yeah well the internet is full of information that isn't quite correct. Or sometimes information doesn't get updated as quick as it should.

So you have 2 options, argue the toss or use balena etcher.

Physical safety relay and software estop latch working together?

Category: HAL

Hi Thomas,
For the block diagram conversion to Hal netlisting  I use Eagle2hal its documentated in lthe inuxcnc wiki (old but works for me). However if I had to start again I would learn Ed Nisley's Kicad to HAL the source code is in Python  also the Kicad people are planning to release a schematic API in their next release this would make it easy to make run time changes to the schematic capture and animate the schematic with realtime values.

I just measured the capacitance and resistance between the conductors, comparing the original cable the probe came with and the solderable PCB. They are identical.
