Powder coated?
I wish I had an oven big enough for that... I rattle canned it
Yeah I have had success with rattle canning things Ive cut as well. They come up surprisingly better then expected.
Gloss on the left, Matt on the right. Ended up Matting both of them as the gloss showed up all the grinder touch ups.
They look really nice! Truthfully I hate the finishing part. I'd rather just sell everything raw and stay out of that side of the business haha. But then theres the other side of me that likes the patinas and what not and wants to play around a bit more.

100% agree with you there. I made the mistake of buying all gloss colors for powder coat. It sucks having to redo things 2 and 3 times because the gloss shows EVERYTHING. Usually I'll check a part after flow out, reshoot if needed, and if that doesn't help it then I'll try a gloss clear over it to hide it all. I have resorted to a matte clear over 3 previously touch ups and it actually turned out great, couldn't even tell there were mistakes underneathe.
Guess I need to be more diligent about prep... I thought it was going to be easier than painting!?!?

Do you sandblast before painting?
Just wondering about this because I buy a fair bit of powdercoating and I never see these artefacts in the finished product but just about everything is painted black. I specify sandblast, undercoat and top coat in satin black. I think the sandblasting removes all of those grinding marks and leaves a nice evenly rough finish for the paint to stick to. I bought a small sandblasting cabinet and I will say its hard work to replicate a similar finish in it. But the pros use a bit bigger gear known to warp 2mm mild steel from the heat generated in the process.
