If you launch LinuxCNC from the command line,
does it say:
"Note: Using POSIX realtime" ?
You may have missed the part where you select "Fully Preemptable Kernel"
in the configuration editor (or forgot to save the modified config file)

I had this same issue and it went away after I changed the servo period to 2000000. I didn't try find out why as it seems to work ok at this servo period.
This is mine after 48 hours:

I added isolcpus = 1,2,3
But I stll get hm2/hm2_7i96.0: error finishing read

So a question.
Is it that easy to fix a new Buster on SD and copy your /boot (not cmdline.txt as I stil want to run on SD until I get SSD)?

It won't give you the full Buster, only the realtime kernel.
I think if you copy:
overlays directory
*.dtbfiles
kernel7l-rt.img
config.txt
cmdline.txt
it should work.
Of course keep backups of your originals

If you ask the transfer from sd to ssd.
7use read in windisk imager to copy sd to pc-disk
Use windisk or i prefere etcher to transfer that copy to ssd.
Working like a charm

did you use my config.txt, that is where the rt kernel is selected.
