Notice the switch, it can not be pressed by any plate.
As you have it in the last picture, i can foresee a lot of broken switches in your near future! :)

But to get smashed switches doesnt that mean a lot of Z axis crashes? If so how?  That would feel to be the sign of some kind of problem?

No problem, user error, namely while setting up the machine and it rams at full speed on the material, or sensor not wired to the input you thought it was, or jogging down while holding shift key ( PlasmaC does not react to float switch while jogging, it should ), etc.
Or after cutting some plates you find a nice design for some lights made out of square tube and forget to raise the probe height, this happened to me several times... :)

QtPlasmaC "shouldn't" jog if breakaway, float, or ohmic are tripped.

Did not know that, PlasmaC did and i did ram the torch once testing it.
More testing ... :)

Yeah, we couldn't do it in either Axis or Gmoccapy. But you convinced us it would be a good idea for QtPlasmac.

The switch needs to be mounted so you can't smash it no matter what.

I’m in the process of some tweaks as I plan to move to the roller style micro switch per JTs pic and what Rod had also shown me.  Aim is to do a no smash set up per comments.

After some tinkering in CAD have these ideas for float and Z limit switching.  Uses "simple" switches that are not able to be smashed and have stops that should be adjustable to fine tune the stop trigger position.
Float switch:

Z Limit Switch:

As an aside I see the forum has a new editor look. But where the heck is the post preview?  I'm probably being blind or missing the point somewhere but can not see/find it and really missing the ability to preview a post before hitting submit.

Cheers - J.
