7i96S card arrived what setup is recomended

Category: Driver Boards

Please help me with the wiring of a single CL57T-V4.1 closed loop driver to Mesa 7i96S

( I am able to get PnCconf to see the Mesa 7i96S board. )

This is the manual of the CL57T driver: www.omc-stepperonline.com/download/CL57T_V4.0.pdf

The printed manual comes with the driver is version CL57T-V4.1, but I can't see any difference.

Based on the manuals for the driver and 7i96S, I understand that:

● Mesa 7i96S STEP pin is the Driver PUL pin. E.g., for a 1.8° step motor, 200 PULSES is a full STEP.

● Mesa 7i96S DIR pin is the Driver DIR pin. I.e., Clockwise or Counter Clockwise.

● The CL57T_V4.x driver requires input voltage 18-50VDC (recommended 24-48VDC). Peak Current: Minimum 2.4 (RMS 2A), typical 5.6 (RMS 4A), max 7.0 (RMS 5A). So it is not a "higher than normal input current requirements" as per Mesa 7i96S manual page 12.

● The CL57T_V4.x driver supports both differential inputs and single-ended inputs. ( I'll wire it to use differential inputs, since it offers better performance. )

And so I am going to attempt this:

1. Is the wiring correct please?

2. The driver manual, page 7, states:

[
The 1-bit selector is located on the top (S3 in figure 2), used to configure the voltage of control signals. For the safety of optically coupled, the factory setting is 24V, which no need to connect 2K resistors, making it easier to use. When the voltage of the control signal is 5V, the S3 must be set to 5V, otherwise, the motor won't work.
]

To use the driver using Rasberry Pi 4 as a controller, I have to set the driver S3 to 5V ( I have documented in this video:
)

Using it with 7i96S, should I set it to 5V or 24V, please?

3. Do we just leave the driver ENA, ALM and BRK un-used, please?

Thank you.

Ok I found the problem.
If you reinstall after copying the lvonfogurations. You still have to configure the network manually.

It’s all working now.

I tried to install tigervnc and it destroyed my system after logingb in with the correct password it just keeps taking me back to the login. So I reinstalled linuxcnc und updated it.now I can not connect to the mesa Ethernet card 7i76Ei get the following error.

Did I do something wrong during installation?

The patch brings back the indicator (/sys/kernel/realtime) that LinuxCNC uses to check if the OS is realtime. This is a part of the realtime patches that didn't become mainline.

I guess for free wheel operation you would need to disconnect the encoder signal in hal but the tricky bit is that you will need to reorient the spindle to within ferror range before reconnecting the encoder again.

I'm not familiar with 'caxis.comp' I switched the controller mode using a digital signal:

If you are referring to switching between lathe-spindle and rotary-axis operation with a servo controller then

1. there is 'caxis.comp' which seems to be used for this (but I'm not familiar with it)
forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-configura...omp-problems?start=0

2. if your servo controller allows switching between velocity (analog input) and position (step/dir input) by using a digital input signal.
This worked for me:

Why STEPGEN_MAXACCEL not allowed to be more than 1500?

Can you give some context as to why you think STEPGEN_MAXACCEL cannot be more than 1500?

well i hit my first snag already :) i picked up 2 air cylinders with the intention of picking a few more up if the plan works out. turns out they no longer have the cylinders i got before in stock now. so i had to come up with a plan B :) so i found some on AliExpress but have to wait. I guess the silver lining would be i now have a better match for this project now. i should be able to make things smaller as a result.

always something it seems :)

ohh, ich kann es mir ja in libreoffice anschauen, damit stimmt mein import sogar überein :)

also wer den cdr-import nutzen möchte sollte unter linux die 'libcdr-tools' installieren:

apt-get install libcdr-tools

It work, thank you!

A few questions:
1 - no “pan” button, I think it was supposed to rotate the preview as when the right mouse button is pressed?  It was very good if yes, lacks such a possibility if only to use touchscreen.
2 - if I understood correctly in QT designer “DRO” buttons X, Y and Z should call separately the “calculator” window to be able to set coordinates manually? One more function I would like to have.
3 - coordinate selection button G54 combined with WCS? It would be good too, I get confused in them from time to time.

Can this all be enabled in 2.9 version or these features are only available in 2.10?

LinuxCNC-RIO - RealtimeIO for LinuxCNC based on FPGA (ICE40 / ECP5)

Category: Computers and Hardware

don't think it's directly due to the spi rate,
faster spi can certainly lower the value somewhat, but it's more to do with the set-up, as I send and receive in one step.
when i have more time i'll try to optimise the process, unfortunately i can't compare it with mesa because i don't have a mesa.
