Adding a DRO and want to integrate with linuxcnc, recommended hardware?

Category: CNC Machines

For SSI or BISS absolute encoders, a 7I96S+7I85 is one possibility

IRQ Affinity setup

Well it ends up being a bit awkward because it needs root privleges
probably the easiest is to add it to the startup using systemd

MPS2000/Taig Mill Driver Issue

Category: Driver Boards

I have the original MPS Micro Mill2000HD/LE and I am still using the original Driver setup. All has been working well till this morning I turn the machine on and not Zaxis.
I swapped the Z motor to the Yaxis driver and it moved fine so I would assume I have a dead driver?

Just to be sure... as I had just finished setting up a Manual Tool Change with Tool Length Touch Off ... so I went back to the HDD with the working install and setup... just in case I did screw up a setting in Linuxcnc. It was the same.

I pulled the box out and removed the cover but there is not obvious burn or smell or issue I can see on the board.

So can I..? and how would I go about using the Aaxis Driver to run the Zaxis..?

That's of course if it will work as it's on the same board but I'd like to try swapping them, while I workout what driver setup I should upgrade to.

Even i know what your insurance companies are doing by finding any reason to deny damage claims, like:
- your garden was messy we have drone footage as proof!!!
Thinking of it, do they have the legal right to send drones over your house recording without your permission?
Or they just do not mention drones...

Cousin would be the correct term as far as I am aware. These storms are getting harder to deal with even when they are
relatively weak they tend to compensate in other ways. Like less wind more rain . Or not Hurricane force wind but a ton of
tornado's instead. And the real kick to the balls is the insurance companies. I am sure your cousin in Orlando knows exactly
what I am talking about. That said I hope things go well with the damage he has to repair and deal with.

I am really glad you are all OK, and having a home to come to is a bonus.
I have seen the terror on youtube as i have a cousin in Orlando, he had nothing the first go, had a bit this time but he was convinced his home got unscaved till he was on the phone with me going through his house that he noticed damage on several places on the roof and solar panels, minor stuff.
Cousin = our fathers are brothers, what is that in English? We have separate naming for fathers and mothers side
Mixha = fathers brother
Halla = fathers sister
Daja = mothers brother
Tezja = mothers sister
Avoiding going postal on politics there, it is s#itier than here, and we are very, very s#itty! :)
But glad help was there, Helene got left holding their .... empty hands for to long.

Adding GUI file to bootable pend drive is this possible

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

That has to be done after the installation.
Or use 2 USB sticks, one with LinuxCNC ISO and one with the config folder, but this is for testing only, to make sure you saved the correct configuration.

  Boy was that storm a roller coaster. Unfortunately I don't have any video of it but I am sure a quick search on YouTube will
give everyone a glimpse of what my family and others had to deal with. First off me and my family are safe back at home.
our house had very minor damage mostly because of the prep work we did before the storm and home modifications I had
implemented years ago for this kind of scenario. Mainly using 6 foot long ground anchors and cables to make sure the roof
and carport couldn't take off in the high winds.
  I was extremely worried when this thing went Cat 5 and persisted at that rating for as long as it did. I thought for sure we
weren't going to have homes to come back too. When it came ashore as a Cat 3 I was still nervous but figured at least now
their's a chance to still have a home. The core of Milton hit about 70 miles below where I live (Pinellas County) still a close
shave as far as hurricanes are concerned.
  We had lost power for 3 days and as of this writing some are still without power. This event could have been so much worse
I am grateful that it wasn't. Just a week or so after Helene I thought this was going to turn into a total fiasco. It is refreshing to
see humanity at it's best. Government officials got resources moving before the storm hit. People actually helping others, and
leaders not letting their ego's get in the way of getting rescues done.  Now if only the world leaders could just stop
bickering like children. This world would be a much better place.
  Thanks to all for their kind words and support.

linuxcnc trajectory planner

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

@Arciera,

For me it's not entirely clear how the probing flow is done, didn't look at is so far.
We will not invest time in it for now, exclude it for now.

@Julian,
While probing its also important to have predictable decceleration distances.
I don't get it.
Im not sure where to place my thoughts. So maybe its wrong in this thread.
Your thoughts are welcome.

Edit:

We are now at the stage that the trajectory is filletized with 3d bspline's.
For the 3d bspline's i used a lib called tinyspline   instead of linking to the huge opencascade lib.

Ok next step should ideally be visualizing the trajectory including the fillet result. But how?
We didn't coded the plannet yet. And the original planner can not run the fillets.

1. For this i could create a tiny tpmod_viewer.so component  (helper component) wich draws the yellow toolpath line over the gcode path.
2. Modify the original planner, to also run spline fillets. This includes logic to reload the lcnc gcode queue at runtime. More difficult.
3. Create a text file output with trajectory points every mm to load into a external online viewer.

What should we do? Any thoughts about validating the filletized trajectory path?

Got it, thanks.  I'm OK with expense, if I do go with absolute encoders, is there a recommended path for a board + integration with LinuxCNC?

6DOF robot Limit Issues

Category: Advanced Configuration

I have a hobby robot partly based on the Melfa sim.  When I home the robot all axis report zero degrees.  The Cartesian location appears correct and it jogs correctly in world/Cartesian. The problem is I'm getting axis limits that contradict what is reported at the Home position pictured below.

With axis 2 limit set to -45/+110 I'm getting a error at -20 degrees.  It appears the axis limits are rotated 90 degress some how.  Is there an absolute vs. relative setting?

I could fudge the limit settings but I want it done right.  How should I define the axis limits?
