Mazak QT20 Automatic tool changer

Category: Turning

The X-axis servo motor and drive failed a few months ago and I haven't touched the machine ever since. I finally got back to fixing the machine, but I want to make some tweaks to the tool changer.

Everything works ok, but I need to add a timing delay when making a tool change. The motor starts turning immediately as soon as you make a tool change, thus not allowing the tool changer to fully unclamp. This causes the tool post to move back and forth until it is unclamped and then it will do the tool change as it's supposed to. I'm sure if i keep running it like this something is eventually going to break or wear .

How do I add a time delay so that the control waits for the tool changer to fully unclamp, and then rotate to the correct position, and re-clamp.

I will attach my HAL files, I don't think I set it up 100% either.

Do you want Linux Mint 19.3 with LinuxCNC 2.8.4 ISO?
It uses 4.19.nn kernel, if i recall correctly, and it works a bit better on my older laptops and PC's.
I can try to upload to google drive, if it fits.

No basically not for me ... I am using only Geany, wine and lcnc + ethercat-master but others... If I am understand right what do you mean ... other stuff should be installed then

XTerm, SSH, and Samba could come in handy.

Especially XTerm.

Maybe also UXTerm.

I use the terminal to set the cpu_scaling_governor to performance, which reduces latency a fair amount.

LinuxCNC + Orange Pi (allwincnc)

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi, guys. Let me introduce a tiny project of mine..

My first single board PC was the Orange Pi One. And it's really fun to use such boards for a hobby projects :) But we also can use them as a small CNC controllers too. It's really sad there are no armhf packages in the LinuCNC dists repo. So my first try was the Machinekit with RT-PREEMPT kernel built using Armbian. And it works. But without a GPIO driver it was just a simulator. After a few weeks of learning I made a GPIO driver by myself. And it works just fine :cheer:

My next step of researching was a "big latency" issue (50-70 us). Many ARM boards has a worst latency values using the RT-PREEMPT kernel. A steps rate with such latency values was terrible. A few months later I found an info about additional built-in RISC CPU core. Using this core for the fast pins toggling was a good idea B)

At this moment I have a working pair of HAL driver and the RISC core firmware. Steps rate now very high (up to 1 MHz). Also I made a quick installer script. You need one of the Armbian images to install it. Supported boards are Nano/Banana/Orange Pi with Allwinner H3 SoCs installed.

Attention! Project support is ended. Use it on your own risc.

Love the "Use at your own RISC"!!

Which combination of cards do you have?

Oops should have read the title.

That's a fairly odd combination, what hardware interfaces do you need?
There is no standard firmware for the combination, but it can be built easily

The different frontends share a common back-end.

They are all almost identical behind the scenes.

So likely a bug.

Perhaps LinuxCNC calculates that your machine is not capable of attaining that level of accuracy.

Like maybe your microstepping moves 0.1mm at a time say, then you can have 0.08 and -.0.02, but nothing in-between

This one time, LinuxCNC started acting super random.

I restarted my PC and everything was fine.

I have no idea why it started acting super wierd.

Question on MESA boards config

Category: Driver Boards

There's 7I76+7I85S firmware for a 7I80DB but not for the 7I76+7I85.
I can make this if you tell me which version of the 7I80DB you have (-16 or -25)

Note that Sserial cards don't need any card specific support in the firmware.
(as long as there is a sserial port, any sserial card is supported)

The 7I76 has 1 free sserial port and the 7I85 has 5 free sserial ports.

Just did that and it seems possible. Now the next question, which bit file should i use for this configuration (7i80-DB + 7i85 and 7i76 with the 7i87 connected to the 7i76)? thank u

Anything is worth a try, new Intel card on order. It should be here tomorrow.

Do double check this, but it should be possible to just wire the 7i87 to 7i76 using a cut off LAN cable, the Smart Serial connector, info on exact wiring is on the 7i76 manual.
