Should just work hey!
A lot of sites don't respond to pings these days with the advent of AWS and other cloud services.
Try connecting to a site in your browser.
139.130.4.5 is an obscure Telstra server I test pings against. if it responds your browser should work.
You know the mesa card needs to be on its own NIC?

Only a single NIC on this machine.
I can ping local machines by address or name.
I can ping external addresses but not names.
Time for a coffee.
Cheers, Phill.

This machine is actually an old wheezy install with a parallel port so it is running RTAI and it only has a wifi.
I finally managed to get it going, it was a corrupt resolv.conf file, probably something I did earlier, this sort of crap happens often when your are in your sixties...
The good news is that even with my shonky probe setup I get exactly the same issues John was having here so I am confident that I can get this working...
Cheers, Phill.

Please do not say that. There are others in that age group too!

John,
I think I have it working now. I am using a go pin .002" small and a nogo pin 0.003" large and the heights for both ohmic and float are consistently within them. I also have the debounce set to 1.
New plasmac.comp is attached.
Cheers, Phill.
EDIT: attachment removed, there is an error in this file that can inadvertently turn the torch on while probing...

I believe most if not all the active participants in this area are there or close to it.
Phill, thanks for all the hard work on this.

Reaching with both hands towards 50's! There is still hope.
Sorry for not helping lately, but i had to dismantle the large plasma i was building as i just could not move through the shop any more. Will have to do a small one soon, but have to finish rearranging and making work more comfortable there. To much stuff gathered through the years and the biggest problem is small stuff, i do have plenty of it so arranging small stuff takes a week and there is no noticeable change in how the shop looks!
Keep at it, i will be following.
Regards,
Tom

Following my interpretation of John's config I am going to:
Add a pin for probe start height: Z will rapid to this height (if it was higher) then begin probing.
I will put a spinbox in the config panel for this as well.
Add a pin for ohmic attempts: the number of attempts at ohmic probing before fallback to float switch probing.
I will put a spinbox in the config panel for this as well.
Also I now think that having a separate config panel as John has is a better idea, it would then be an option to totally remove the config panel and associated python and hal files and setp all the parameters on that page in plasmac.hal
Anyhow I will start on the probing mods as above.
Cheers, Phill.
