Has anyone got Linux mint 18.1 working with linuxcnc? 32or64 bit

I've read on these forums that 18 will work after figuring out the python dependencies. I tried all day yesterday on 18.1 to no avail.
I'm running along with 17.3 mint 4.8.11rt7 just fine. 2.8 master, Im just messing around and want 18.1 now ;)

I'm stuck on the build asking for tcl & tk locations. I linked them via -includetcl/user/lib....ect but still fail the Hal.sh build Critical error.
Can't remember the file it's failing:linked to. But it's for tcl.

Any one note the dependencies they needed/workaround if your up and running?

I've already compiled preemptive and RTAI kernels. For linuxcnc I'm using a RIP build.
I like mint the best out of all others I've tried. Best out of the box desktop imho.

I'm going to try another fresh install. See how that works!

... linux mint 18.1 is up and running. I'll try to post what I did to get it going if anyone is interested.

I am very interested in the LinuxCNC installation on linux mint 18.
I bought the combo 6i25 + 7i76 to exploit LinuxCNC 2.8 functionality "joints", but have not managed to run linuxcnc on linuxmint 18. Could you kindly made a step by step tutorial on how to proceed with the installation please?
Thanks
Floris

Maybe not really a tutorial, but this thread eventually covers how I got Mint 17.3 up and running with the preemptive kernel.
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...ng-uspace-for-master

PCW has a nice script to patch the kernel with the preemptive patch.

He thought it was best to stick to Mint 17.3 and the 4.1.35 kernel. I've also installed the 4.8 kernel using a modified script; I've attached the script I used. (Just rename from.txt to .sh) Before running it, I'd research how to avoid entering the sudo password as it can take some hours to compile the kernel and if you fixed this, it would be all installed when you wake up in the morning.

Then you just need to build LinuxCNC which is also covered. Some examples I followed refer to the ./debian folder. This is incorrect.

Awesome work. Thanks for the acknowledgement too! Very thorough. I might add a couple of extra tips on how to configure rip-environment at startup and also how to restart the network which is a bit different in Mint when I am at home and have the time.
If you are building a machine with a Mesa ethernet card, you will be turning power off the control box and fiddling with wires so the restart is something I use all the time.
