What do you really get for a $350 desk top engraver ?

Category: Show Your Stuff

it might be that the X axis is under powered compared to the tandem Y axis and that could be why it shows up on contour cutting? that would be pretty easy to do and not redesign things from the ground up in the process :) It might point me in a particular direction?

  • What does the unwanted surface look like on contour cutting?
  • Is it a repeating pattern, or random marks/gouges?
  • Does it happen at all speeds, or just some?
  • When you specify 'contour', do you mean any cutting involving the X axis, or only certain motions?
  • Belt profile and pitch?
  • Pinion pitch diameter?
  • Still using the CL57T drives?
    • Have you modified any settings inside the drive?
    • LCNC output steps per mm or inch?

This should help to narrow down if the problem is primarily due to the coarse motion system you have, or a tuning/settings issue.

Unless the motors are losing steps, I don't think you need to change motor voltage just yet.

ClearPath SDSK Usb port monitoring

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Has anyone been able to use HAL to get outputs from the USB port on ClearPath servos?

Teknic uses this usb port to connect their MSP configuration software. The port has a bunch of useful information. This is basically for monitoring purposes, but configuration can also be done through the usb.

Here you can see some from ST: www.st.com/en/power-modules-and-ipm/stpo...lligent-modules.html. The v5 is the middle category in terms of servo motor power.
Look in the HP category.
To which rectifiers are you referring? Ready to use boards or simple diode module? I know there are several architectures for rectifiers.

Troubleshooting Analog AC Servo - Full Speed at "Analog Scale Max = 0"

Category: Basic Configuration

First the drive must be tuned to the attached motor, with it's own software, follow the procedure as described in the drive manual.
No LinuxCNC at all, until the drive is set up properly, as it is impossible to tune or use.
And a friendly warning, do not change stuff at random and hope it works, usually end up in tears or frustration.

That is worth testing, stepper systems at low speeds do not benefit from higher voltage, but at higher speeds the difference is huge.
BTW, low speed for a Nema23 stepper is under 150-200RPM some up to 500, from there the torque drops like a rock, so any added voltage helps a lot.

i think one thing that i could try to see if things improve would be to swap out 36V power supplies for some 48V supplies i think i have 4 of them in another box that i can steal or borrow just to see if it improves and with some extra power?

Linuxcnc start disables Parallel port of PCI Express card

Category: Basic Configuration

Most of the time, such issues are caused by dirty pins on the add on card as they get touched.
A good cleaning with alcohol should take care of that.

If the drives are not tuned properly to the motors they are using, no ammount of tuning in LinuxCNC will help.
Normal procedure for tuning analog drives is to tune the torque mode first with motor not attached to machine, then do velocity loop tunning in drive, and if drives have position mode also tune this.
Only after tuning drives to motors you can procees to tune in LinuxCNC, just do not forget to set the drive in velocity mode after testing position mode, if any.

Custom DH Parameters Kinematics

Category: Advanced Configuration

I'm not aware of any other kinematic that would work out of the box.
This is from a comment in 'genserkins.c':

The parameters for the manipulator are defined by hal pins.
Currently the type of the joints is hardcoded to ANGULAR, although
the kins support both ANGULAR and LINEAR axes.

TODO:
* make number of joints a loadtime parameter
* add HAL pins for all settable parameters, including joint type: ANGULAR / LINEAR

So for your purpose you would need to implement these two TODO points.
Note that 'genserkins' uses 'modified' DH parameters as also pointed out in the comments in 'genserkins.c'

But I will definitely try it when I get home. It looks like a promising project.

Thank you for reply MR.Tommy , MR.PCW
Now Encoder done .
I use solution slow JOG and check real moving distance and compare encoder now done.

I config , setup , Tunning for Analog  to Servo DELTA A2 (I use analog from 7i77)  2days   I can't smooth tunning Servo motor (I check with Hall scope with signal x-vel fb , y-vel fb)
I read  tunning from MR.Tommy
forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-configura...mple-mesa-7i77#88210

and see picture ,He can P = 20 but me  1 - 1.5  only .
when P = 2 my servo super vibration and cut .
Servo DELTA  A2 other config or setup ? can advice me ?

FYI:
- Sorry this is new topic but I don't know must open new post or inside this post better.
- X axis DELTA B2
-Y axis DELTA A2
- attach picture is DELTA A2 only

Thank you ,
Asis
