Modbus VFD startup delay?

Category: Basic Configuration

I don't quite understand your problem. I control my VFD via MODBUS and when communication is lost an error message appears, but once communication is re-established everything returns to normal. The error you describe would only appear if at the start of LNC there was no communication with the VFD. If I disconnect the power supply to the VFD only the error message appears, but once I re-establish it everything returns to normal.

Pendant with 7i73: question with analog inputs

Category: Driver Boards

In the smart serial configuration in the hal file, you have to enable mode 1, I think that is what enables those inputs as analog, not only the configuration of the jumpers is needed. Right now I don't have my configuration at hand, but tomorrow I can share it with you.

Mesa Config Tool 7i96s MPG Firmware Flash Error

Category: Configuration Tools

I put it into the .local/lib/libmesact/ folder and selected it from the dropdown list in mesact's firmware panel. Then tried to verify and got the error.

I just tried it again after flashing using the terminal and now it is verifying it as ok. Maybe just a weird bug?

Installing LinuxCNC On HP T610 Thin Client

Category: Computers and Hardware

Had a bit of an issue with the latest 2.9.2 iso.

Latency was huge compared to my last install.

My fix was to before starting the installer was to edit the kernel cmdline (press e to edit) and add after 'quiet' noefi this cause the efi stuff not to be loaded, and grub will install in "legacy" mode. During the install you will asked if you want to force EFI, say no. This will give an install that is "legacy" boot, which the T610 picks up automagically.
With a UEFI install even with isolcpus=1 latency was around 152. With a "legacy" install no isolcpus latency was around 62. This was with no base thread as it's not required.
Giving it a dry run with mesa running running on Spartan 6 dev board via EPP connected via BoB to my little desktop router thingy from Banggood I can say it performed absolutely fine.

Pendant with 7i73: question with analog inputs

Category: Driver Boards

Hi,
i've built a custom pendant using the 7i73 (connected to my main 7i96s), most stuff works, but I cannot get more than 4 analog inputs working.
Here is how the pendant looks (3D-Joystick for quickly moving the axis and an encoder for exact positioning - modeled after the Estlcam pendant):

Here is how it looks inside - some classic wiring (after a bit twiggling, the 7i73 fits nicely into the free space of the Bopla enclosure):

I have almost everything running in LinuxCNC, but I cannot find any way to use the I4-I7 inputs as analog inputs (I0-I3 work as analog inputs). I actually only need one additional analog input (I4) and asked the MESA support for help - they answered that "That would take a fair amount of changes" and suggested using another card (which would not fit into the enclosure anymore).I checked their website again and they advertise the card as having 8 analog inputs - after digging through the manual however there is some explanation: "Inputs 0 through 7 can read analog signal values however only inputs 0 through 3 are supported for analog input by available interface modes". So even though the hardware supports 8 inputs, the software does not - pretty misleading.

The card is set to NO KEYPAD MODE / NO LCD MODE (W5=DOWN, W6=DOWN, W7=DOWN), I am using inputs IN0-IN3 for analog in, IN5-IN7 for digital, IN8/9 for ENC0 and IN10-15 for digital inputs and would like to use IN4 as analog input.
Here is a screenshot of the hal:

So my question is: has anybody been able to get more than 4 analog inputs working with the 7I73 and how?

Thanks!

Thanks.  I'm not going down the component editing rabbit-hole, so I'll stick with the existing analog control.

Just to follow this up, I have it working great for small movements... but the moment I try and index to a pocket further away it error's my drive out (1b0 - Bus dithering).

Looking into the mode further... it is using CSP mode, which from the docs expects to be updated periodically with a location from a "movement planner". So I think I need to use Position Profile instead - which would allow a final position to be put in the target position register and then the movement profile (accel/velocity/decell etc) would be used from the drives settings.

So I will be hacking around a cia402 module to see if I can test this.

You might want to check the ethercat_conf file name... You config uses ethercat-conf (hyphen) where the files is usually an ethercat_conf (underscore).

Hi. If you figure out how I can send you 10GB of data, I can send you an acronis image of my system, the drivers are already installed and the configuration runs.

Thank you very much for the offer. wouldnt this be full of configurations made exactly to your hardware? not sure this is the best method to fix...

Is the ethercat-conf.xml file in the ~/dev/hal-cia402 directory?

Good question, should have mentioned. yes its in there. it wasnt clear from the instructions if anything else is needed like hal files etc.
So right now there is the ethercat-conf.xml the cia402.comp and the lincense and readme files. there is also an example folder with a less complete ethercat-conf.

i used the marcos ethercat-conf file and removed some info as i only have two drives under power right now.
